Since the term "langes Messer" translates directly to "long knife" it seems fair to assume any kind of weapon period people would have called a knife - or a long knife (langes Messer) - is valid to use for fencing according to our beloved Messer manuscripts. In many situations in fencing, these shorter Messers (often described as Bauernwehr oder Rugger by modern historians) made by Adam Bodorics feel more "messery" than actual modern Messers for fencing/HEMA do. Being absolutely in love with these devices, we decided to record our current state of interpretation of the whole Messer section of the so called Glasgow Fechtbuch (MS E.1939.65.341) as a showcase of these Messers, for educational purposes and for your entertainment.
