Dr. Zhuravsky, a board certified facial plastic surgeon, and expert in rhinoplasty explains the important structures of the nose that patients should understand before considering surgery. The nose can be divided into three segments; the upper, middle, and lower third. The upper one third is the only part that really consists of bone. These nasal bones come together to create a pyramid or tent - like shape. The middle portion is made from the upper lateral cartilages, which come together and rest on the septum. The septum itself is a wall inside the nose that supports the central nose and also gives support to the lower part as well. The lower third is the tip of the nose. This consists of two lower lateral cartilages. In the video, we show the common and ideal structure, but these can vary greatly from person to person. In other other videos, we will explore how the change in shape effects the appearance of the nose.
