Rolling onto the only passenger train carrying ferry in Europe!

Here is a short video of Trenitalia InterCity Notte 1963 rolling onto the train ferry that plies the Straits of Messina between Villa San Giovanni (in Southern Italy) and Sicily. The sleeper train runs the whole length of Italy from Milan, then continues in Sicily to Siracusa or Palermo. The journey is around 19hrs and is definitely a “Great Railway Journey of the World”! You staff on board the train whilst it is shunted on to the ferry, but beware! The toilets are locked for this part of the journey and you have to use the ones in the ship. If you get off the train, there is a good cafe that sells snacks (including arancini for 3 euros). They only accept cash though, not cards. This journey was made on 4/11/2022.
