What a beautiful start for Bossa Nova. HÓ-BÁ-LÁ-LÁ and BIM-BOM are the first two songs with this new beat created by João Gilberto later to be known as Bossa Nova. Living with his sister in Diamatina, who took care of him during a rough period in his life, he was in search of a new approach of making music that was the way it was done in the 1950's. Inspired by music from his youth and the likes of his good friend João Donato, who played accordion and later piano and Johnny Alf who played piano as well, he tried to mimic the rhythms on guitar. Living very secluded he played for hours and hours in his bedroom and bathroom. Never feeling the need to get out of his pyjamas. Using the profound sound reflection of the bathroom to listen what he was doing, coming up with a way of singing that matched the sound of his guitar. Projecting more through the nose, producing a more trombone like sound. Using his voice more like an instrument to bring the melody in an honest and pristene way. Without the use of vibrato or large volume to impress. Just bringing the melody. I like that. Vem Bossa!   / vembossa
