Babysitter Arrest Brings Attention to "Nannycams"

COLUMBUS -- Nannycams are on the minds of many central Ohio parents after the technology was used to bust a babysitter accused of physically abusing a Westerville toddler. Police arrested Rebecca Sanders after viewing footage caught by hidden cameras inside the child's home that allegedly showed the babysitter smacking and dropping a young boy in her care. The toddler's mother installed the camera after noticing the change in her son's mood that occurred each time he was left alone with Sanders. Security expert Mike Powers installs hidden cameras in concerned parents' houses, and told our sister station his devices have caught abusive nannies and sitters in the act. Powers said suspicious parents tell him they're willing to go the extra mile to ensure the safety of their children. If it's my child, I'm going to do whatever it takes to make sure my child is safe, Powers said. If that means I have to put a hidden camera inside to watch what they're doing, I'll do it. Powers said his cameras can be installed nearly anywhere inside a home, and can cost anywhere from $500 to $3500, depending on the number and location of the devices.Courtesy of our sister station, ABC 6/FOX 28.
