"Hail Columbia: Fantasie Brilliante for Violin," performed by Arthur Moeller with the PRO

Violinist Arthur Moeller performs the "Hail Columbia: Fantasie Brilliante" (Op. 184, 1893) by Theodore Moses-Tobani with the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra conducted by Rick Benjamin. This virtuosic, patriotic showpiece was composed by Moses-Tobani for his own solo appearances with the Exposition Orchestra at the legendary 1893 World's Fair in Chicago (The "World's Columbian Exposition"). The tune used for these variations - "Hail Columbia" - was one of the three competing United States national anthems in use in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Our performance of "Hail Columbia: Fantasie Brilliante" was part of a November 2022 concert of historic World's Fair music played from original scores.
