It was a slower day for fish traffic, but we still managed to spot a few travelers making their way to their spawning grounds. What is the Fish Doorbell? The Fish Doorbell (or "Visdeurbel" in Dutch) is a unique and wonderful project that connects people from all over the world to the underwater world of Utrecht's canals. An underwater camera live streams from the Weerdsluis lock, and when viewers spot a fish, they can ring the "doorbell"! This alerts the lock operator, who can then open the gate and allow the fish to continue their journey. This is especially important in the spring, when fish are migrating to their spawning grounds. Even on a quiet day like this one, every fish that gets through is a victory for urban wildlife. We'll show you the few sightings we had and explain more about this amazing project.
