In December of 2021, New Mexico’s Cannabis Control Division (CCD) announced that it was accepting applications for all license types and currently does not have any limitations on the number of licensed cannabis businesses that will be allowed. Today we are going to focus on the requirements to obtain a cannabis dispensary license. While the process in New Mexico is not as complex as a competitive licensing process, you can still anticipate at least 6 to 12 months of preparation. Before approaching the license application process it is important to have a location picked out and either secured or in the process of being secured. The retail licensing process requires the below plans and documents to be submitted via its online licensing portal. 1. A social and Economic Equity Plan This plan should describe the applicant's plan to encourage and promote economic and social diversity in employment. It should include race, ethnicity, gender, age, and residential status of the licensee, controlling persons, and employees of the applicant. Also whether the applicant, controlling persons, employees, or the locations where cannabis products are produced/sold are located in an underserved rural community or a rural historic community. 2. Proof of age for every controlling person 3. Each controlling person listed must complete a criminal history screening affidavit 4. Premise diagram attestation 5. Applicant certified attestation The last step of the online application process is application fee payments. The non refundable application fee is $2,500 and the annual licensing fee is $1,000.
