Join me as we take a short but pleasant walk through this small, picturesque village in the Great Wold Valley in Yorkshire, England. If you enjoy this video please consider subscribing to the channel / @walktheworldaway Wold Newton is located in the Yorkshire Wolds near Driffield and Bridlington. The village is well known for a meteorite that crashed in 1795 on the outskirts of the village where there is a brick column to commemorate the event which bears the inscription: 'Here on this spot, December 13, 1795 fell from the atmosphere an extraordinary stone. In breadth twenty-eight inches, in length thirty-six inches and whose weight was fifty-six pounds. This column in memory of it was erected by Edward Topham, 1799'. The Great Wold Valley is the largest and broadest of the valleys cutting into the Yorkshire Wolds in northern England. It carries the Gypsey Race, an intermittent stream, which runs from its source near Wharram-le-Street eastwards along and through the northern Yorkshire Wolds to reach the sea at Bridlington. This whole landscape was an important place of worship during Neolithic times and there are a number of scheduled monuments in the valley. To the south of the village, close to the Gypsy Race stands a neolithic round barrow. It was excavated in 1894 by John Robert Mortimer when it was discovered that the monument had initially composed a large timber structure onto which several bodies had been laid along with pottery and flints. The All Saints church is a Grade II* listed building, and so too are Wold Newton Hall, the former Wesleyan Chapel (now Wold Newton Community Centre), The Old Vicarage, the Anvil Arms Public House and the Red phone box on Wold Newton Green.
