In the heart of southwestern Uganda, the Rubondo sub-base camp in Nakivale Refugee Settlement is facing a severe water crisis one that threatens the health and dignity of over 150,000 refugees. Most of these refugees come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. Every day, they wait in line for hours just to collect water. For many, the only option is to pay between 1,000 to 2,000 Ugandan Shillings per jerry can. For others, the only source is contaminated swamps and dams, increasing the risk of deadly diseases like cholera. The crisis is fueled by a growing population fleeing conflict and violence, overwhelming the already fragile water infrastructure. With limited funding and no effective water management systems, the situation continues to deteriorate. Humanitarian organizations are stepping in, working to improve access. But the need far outweighs the support. Vulnerable groups women, children, and people with disabilities are hit hardest. Long queues often lead to conflict, and the lack of clean water and sanitation fuels outbreaks of disease. This is more than a crisis. It’s a call to action. The people of Rubondo need clean water not tomorrow, but today. “Support Water Access in Rubondo - Nakivale. Act Now.”
