With Metal Sonic trounced by the real Sonic (and his vulpine sidekick), Eggman brings out the Egg Heart, unskippable cutscene and all. (Of course, all of the boss battles so far have had unskippable cutscenes.) The Egg Heart has its own gravity too, in an outward-radiating circle, making this feel somewhat reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy (and its sequel). Actually, now that I've brought it up, the Death Egg mk.II stage design does kind of feel like if the gravity mechanics in the Mario Galaxy games were transferred to 2-D platforming Sonic. Anyway, the Egg Heart needs 8 hits to get destroyed, after which the game ends. Sort of. This being this game's final boss, Eggman is not going to make it easy on Sonic, and he'll up the ante roughly once every 2 hits. The Egg Heart's weak spot is the core, where Eggman is riding around in. It's surrounded by three rings (not to be confused with the Rings Sonic collects everywhere, which are capitalized), which drift around somewhat independently of the core, though each ring will always stay entirely within the next bigger one an the core always within the smallest ring. Incidentally, there seems to be a ring of Rings around the core too. Sonic and Tails begin on the outermost ring and have to make their way into the smallest ring to hit Eggman, after which the two get bounced back to the outermost ring to start the process over again. Eggman can fight back though. At first, his only means of defense are the electric currents running through the bottom of the core, which will hurt Sonic if he touches it. Watch where the Homing Attack goes! After one hit, Eggman will electrify the rings, and the patterns change after every hit. After 4 to 5 hits (it varies), Eggman will break apart the middle ring into four pieces, allowing them to each drift around the space between the first and third rings. At this point, you can no longer have Sonic run and jump his way to Eggman. You need to use the Copter Combo to get up. At the same time, Eggman creates a barrier around the core that can only be broken with a Rolling Combo. Meanwhile, Eggman is slowly charging up a full-screen one-hit kill attack. If you see the background going dark, you can tell he's getting close to it. Once he's fully charged, he sends Sonic's gravity flying elsewhere to kill him off. Australia You'll know the Egg Heart has one hit left when the core has that yellow barrier and the innermost ring is electrified in alternating adjacent pairs of units, by the way. Once the Egg Heart is destroyed, the Death Egg mk.II shuts down. Up next are the ending and credits to this game.
