THE BACK - COMPLEX-1 COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH - EPISODE 21 Complex-1 from Propellerhead Software is a Buchla-inspired paraphonic synthesizer that offers the chance to manipulate and generate sound in a manner that has never been possible in Reason before. Through controlled voltage routing, filter and oscillator manipulation, and built-in sequencing, Complex-1 offers musicians a chance to create some of the most unique sounds possible. If you are just getting into synthesis, the Complex-1 synthesizer is both intimidating and dense. Even if you are a seasoned pro, you may struggle with some of its abilities. This tutorial walks through every module of the Complex-1, explaining what each piece does, and why it should matter to you. The back of every Reason module holds a gem of some kind to discover. Complex-1 is no different. Through routing into the back of Complex-1 you are also able to route devices into the front panel. Additionally, you can route audio and CV out of Complex-1 into other modules. We explore CV, Gate, Pitch Bend, Mod Wheel, CV Out/In, and Audio In in this episode and demonstrate all of them. The episode finishes with the building of an epic patch in real-time. Many of the patches demonstrated in this series are included in the free OVERLY COMPLEX Reason ReFill available at ZombieFightsShark.com or go directly to it at: gum.co/OverlyComplex CONTENTS: 00:00 - Intro 00:45 - routing audio out of Complex-1 01:43 - using the AUDIO IN on the back on Complex-1 03:30 - using AUDIO IN to modulate FM on COMPLEX OSC 04:25 - routing AUDIO IN to Filter and modulating it with the ADSR envelope 05:55 - routing LFO from a Subtractor into Complex-1 CV IN 06:30 - controlling Noise Color Amount with CV IN 07:31 - routing CV OUT to an external device (Europa example) 07:51 - routing LFO to FUNCTION then to CV OUT then into Europa 09:51 - controlling Mod Wheel input with a Europa envelope 13:25 - Controlling CV and GATE with an external source (Matrix) 13:51 - real-time, continuous patch build Zombie Fights Shark creates ReFills for Reason, music creation software made by Propellerheads, sound packs for Ableton Live, Kontakt Libraries, and wav files that work for all DAW's.
