USATC S160 No. 6046 opens up through Bledlow | C&PRR Santa Special | 20/12/2025.

Best viewed in 1080p HD The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway played host to their annual "Santa Special" operations across each weekend of December. As usual, these festive operations would involve three round trips working along the 4-mile line per running day, with each train being 'top-&-tailed' utilising both steam and diesel traction. The steam motive power allocated for these trips came in the form of USATC S160 2-8-0 No. 6046, which has spent the year on hire to the C&PRR from the Churnet Valley Railway. Following on from filming over at the Severn Valley last weekend, the afternoon of 20th December saw me pay a visit to the village of Bledlow, where I'd planned to film the Baldwin-built 2-8-0 hauling the 12:30pm "Santa Special" bound for Chinnor. Here, 6046 can be glimpsed slowing for the TSR over West Lane bridge, whistling twice for the foot crossing further down. Once clear of restrictions, the S160 is fully opened up in preparation for the climb up the 1 in 68 Chinnor Bank, and, with a thunderous display of noise and exhaust, accelerates past up the gradient with a rake of 4 MK1s (plus a class 47) in tow.
