The Certainty of our Security (Romans 8:28) Romans 8:1-27 teaches that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is very powerful, very mighty, in the life of a believer that it is the Holy Spirit who regenerates him, sanctifies him, and glorifies him. • This is the blessed ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This understanding will lead us to the true worship of the Holy Spirit—let us give due respect unto God the Holy Spirit; He deserves it: • He is not just a force or a mystical power just to perform some miracles or breakthroughs in our lives, but He is the one who guarantees and safeguards our salvation. • He is equal with God the Father and God the Son, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. • His sovereignty, His majesty, His glory, is equal with God the Father, and God the Son. • And therefore, He is to be worshipped equally as we worship God the Father and God the Son. As we now come to the second part of Romans 8 (vv 28-39), Paul explains the blessed outcome of the mighty work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer: We have an assurance or certainty that we are very secure in the everlasting arms of the Triune God! And Romans 8:28 is the summary of that assurance! “And We Know”—The Reality of the Security What do we know of the security of our spiritual life? • It is knowing the person and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. • It is ignorance that leads people into all the unwanted and unwarranted things in worship and in Christian life. • John 8:31-32 “All Things”—The Extent of the Security “All things” include everything that happens in our lives, God works together for our good. • It includes good things and bad things. • It doesn’t matter what the immediate outcome be. (The story of the poor villager) The word “work together” is “sunergew” from which we have the English word synergy, which means, combined effort of two or more things produces a greater outcome. • In our lives we experience divine synergism that sometimes God allows good things and bad things, but ultimately the final outcome would be good. • 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 • Genesis 50:20 The adjective “good” is not so much of outward goodness, but moral goodness, means the inward peace and tranquillity. • This means, in this life, our expected outcome may not be as the way we desire, but there is an internal peace and joy we are able to experience because God does all things only for our good. • Job 19:26-27, “After my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.” It is therefore important for us to believe and accept that our sufferings and difficult situations that the Lord allows in our lives are not to destroy us, but to mould and prepare us that we behold and experience the mighty power of God in our lives. • That is the goodness of God as Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man that trust in Him.” “The Saints”—The Recipients of the Security Who are the ones who experience the goodness of the Lord in their lives? • The ones who love God and the ones who are the called. • How do we know that we are truly the children of God? Do I love God Those who love God, they do so because they are the called ones and the Apostle John in 1 John 4:19 explains, “We love Him because He first loved us.” • The call here is not a generic call, but a very specific or particular, effectual call. • 2 Timothy 1:9, Paul says, “God who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” “According to His Purpose”—The Plan of the Security In all things, God has His intended purpose, the mega story or the mega picture of the tiny things, the little fragments, that happens every day in our lives. • There is no other portion explains this truth so beautifully but the story of the man Job in the book of Job. • Job 38:1-3; 40:1-5; 42:1-6 • Habakkuk 2:20, “The LORD is His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.” Conclusion/Application What a glorious plan and purpose of God, that the Father willed eternally, accomplished through His Son, and realized through His Holy Spirit! Our salvation is evermore certain and secure in the Triune God! How should we take this? • Every soul should find his/her rest in the everlasting arms of God! • Psalm 91 Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”
