Challenge to the European Strategic Autonomy

The challenge of European strategic autonomy concerns Europe’s ability to act independently and coherently on key issues such as defence, energy and technology. In an increasingly competitive and uncertain global environment, the European Union needs to reduce its dependence on external powers such as the United States, Russia and China in order to protect its interests and security. In the defence sector, this means developing autonomous military capabilities, strengthening cooperation between Member States and investing in advanced security technologies. On the energy front, autonomy translates into diversifying sources, promoting renewable energies and reducing dependence on external suppliers, particularly for gas and oil. In terms of technology, Europe must focus on innovation, control of critical infrastructure and digital sovereignty, preventing strategic sectors from being dominated by foreign players. This challenge requires a shared vision, significant investment and greater political and industrial integration at European level in order to build a position of strength and independence in the world.
