French toast is a very common breakfast dish served across several countries in Europe. Although the method of preparing this famous toast is the same all over, the name by which it is known is variable in different countries. For instance, in Germany, it is named as Ritter. In Britain, it is known by the name eggy bread whereas in Rome, where the it is believed to be originated, was known by the name pain a la Romaine. The French toast recipe has a history that dates way back to the Roman era where it was used as a means of utilizing stale bread in order to avoid wasting food. Although this common dish is named as such, it is believed that it was originated in Rome and the Romans were the first people to use it although debates on its origin are still going on. But, the fact of the matter is, there aren't any solid records of the origins of it yet. But, there is a popular myth behind its origin. That is, the French toast did originate from America in 1724 and the name "French" came from the person who made it, Joseph French. But, this fact still remains a pure fiction since there are enough evidences of the this popular toast being used throughout the history. Since wasting food was something that the majority of the people of ancient and medieval periods could not have dreamt of, they did find some ways to make stale bread palatable. As a result, How to make French toast began to be prepared where the stale bread was dipped in an egg batter and then cooked, typically frying it in oil. This method has remained to be pretty much the same these days, too. French toast has been one of the favourite dishes of the vast majority of population throughout the history. Ever since man began to prepare food, bread has been the primary source. In ancient times as well as in the medieval periods, it was a dish that was used by people of all classes, be it the lower class or upper class people. But, there were slight differences in types of bread that were used by the upper class members in the society. While most people tended how to make French toast from whole grain bread, those in the upper class preferred to use highly enriched white bread which were apparently expensive.
