Ecclesiastes’ most famous passage is undoubtedly the beginning of Chapter 3 and its poetic run down of life’s seasons. But when it comes to life’s chronological seasons, we often refer to adolescence and puberty as one’s “coming of age.” And if we’re lucky, a parent or mentor helps us prepare for it. But we are told far less – if at all – about the many “coming of age” seasons later in life. And one later season that is known for all the wrong reasons is our midlife – namely the “midlife crisis.” If our midlife and the lot in life that we receive during it are truly gifts from God, why are we legendarily bad at receiving it? Ecclesiastes point to two reasons why, as well as two ways we can transition well into each of the seasons Ecclesiastes 3 points to – even the season of midlife!
