Darwin - Mataranka - Daly Waters

We finally got out of the red dirt and found a touch of civilisation in the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin. We spent a very lazy and relaxing week hanging out by the pool and getting ourselves rested and ready for the next big leg of our journey. We managed to catch up with an old friend and checked out a few of the sites including the Darwin waterfront, Mindil Markets and the Charles Darwin National Park. Alex also ducked into the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT with the kids and discovered every animal in the Territory. We then headed south and stayed at the Little Roper River Stockman Camp where we hung out with friends and a tonne of live animals that we could touch and hold. We also enjoyed a warm bath in Bitter Springs and the Mataranka Thermal Pools and saw the legendary Mr Whippy do his thing. We finished off with a night at Daly Waters followed by a big drive to the Queensland border where we stayed at one of the best free camps on the trip so far.
