I have decided to re-attempt the Gurkha Fitness Test. This is one of the toughest entry fitness tests of any military force for one simple reason - the Gurkhas are undoubtedly the toughest soldiers in the world. Featured in this video: 800 metre run - this is a best effort run and the Gurkha fitness standards state that it must be completed in under 2:40 4 kg medicine ball - this is part of the new British Army Fitness test, as Gurkhas are a front line infantry unit they have to throw the medicine ball the furthest for a distance of 3.10 metres. Other regiments do no have to throw it this far. Mid-thigh lift - this is another new army fitness test. It involves total body pulling strength and infantry soldiers are required to lift at least 100kg. Sit up test - this is no longer in the Gurkha or British Army Fitness test - however as this is the one I have always struggled with the most I did not want to avoid it. Often we avoid things that we don't like or that we are not good at. The challenge is embracing these things rather than avoiding them. The old fitness test stated that the 2 minute sit up test minimum standards was 70 sit ups. Pull up test - overhand pull ups, chest to bar, all the way down no swinging or kipping. Minimum standards are 12 pull ups. The final test I will be attempting is the famous Doko Race. Now, I don't like anywhere near the Himalayas so my hill is absolutely tiny in comparison, however I will add an extra 1 km on to the distance. The Doko Race is a 5km uphill race carrying a bamboo basket with 25kg. The hill is very steep and must be completed in 48 minutes, this is no easy feat! Especially considering the elevation of the hill they do it on! In this video I have tried to simulate the Doko Race as accurately as possible, I have created my own Doko basket, however it is not the sturdy bamboo kind, so I have had to strengthen it with ropes and straps! But it contains 25kg and I intend to run 6km up the highest hills in the area! Check out Rokman Tactical Strength Training Programme https://portal.rokman.co.uk/courses/t...
