We're celebrating our 120th anniversary by taking a look back on the trials and triumphs that made us. Decade eight of our history was marked by big tests and bold moves. Between 1973 and 1983, copper prices were in decline and it was clear big changes were needed. Our Chairman Thomas Barrow led a revival with the completion of the Garfield smelter and a radical rebuild of the mine to improve efficiency. Then, the sale of Kennecott to Standard Oil of Ohio saved our operations from a deep recession. In 1983 a $23 million was approved to further expand Utah's copper supply, getting us back on the road to better things.
