Forum 2029 As public dissatisfaction with the current government deepens, the need for a coherent, credible alternative has become increasingly urgent. To meet this moment, a new initiative, Forum 2029, will this summer launch a major series of events aimed at developing a clear progressive policy platform focused on living standards and democratic renewal. Hosted by leading think tank the Autonomy Institute, Forum 2029 will bring together some of the UK’s leading politicians, activists, academics and campaigners from across the progressive spectrum. Together, they will chart the ideas and strategies needed for a transformative agenda fit for the challenges of the present - leading into the next general election. Panel description Inequality in the UK is deepening — driven by a tax system that favours wealth over work, stagnating wages, and a welfare framework that fails to provide dignity or security. In the face of rising costs and falling living standards, questions of how we tax, how we work, and how we support one another have never been more urgent. This panel will explore how we can build a fairer economic settlement: one that redistributes wealth and ensures a decent standard of living for all. Our panel will unpack the structural drivers of inequality — from regressive taxation and precarious work to u welfare — and outline the policies needed to reverse them. Speakers: Caitlin Boswell (Tax Justice), Rebecca Gowland (Partiotic Millionaires), Sara Reiss (Women’s Budget Group), Fran Boait.
