Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance. Today we have for you a requested video. This young fountain pen lover and a sworn follower of this channel has come here with two pens that he has just bought from the Pen Hospital in Kolkata. The pens are meant to be a birthday gift for his lady love and he wants us to feature them in a video so that he may have some bragging points. We have featured one of the pens here before, but, what the heck? Naturally, I cannot disappoint the young man, who does not want to be identified, and although I requested him to record a short message which I thought would have made the video even more appealing, he declined. But here are the pens that he got. Both are of Chinese origin and are as good as these entry-level Chinese pens generally are. They write reasonably well and are attractive to look at, though skeptics will be tempted to find uncanny resemblances to iconic pens in the market that are offered by established legacy brands. You can understand my compulsion for the restrained use of words here, I hope. There is a birthday involved. One is a Jinhao, while the other does not have a marking on the pen – the logo on the nib being etched too finely for my antediluvian eyes to make sense of. I thought that too was a Jinhao, but my friend chooses to differ, so I am reserving my comment on the same. One is a vanilla cartridge converter pen, while the other sports a plunger mechanism for drawing in the ink. The bottom finial can be screwed up and down to fill the pen but does not have the locking mechanism of the Taiwanese sibling that this pen resembles. On the look and feel criterion, the pens pass muster, especially at the price points at which they are made available The whole episode is making me mighty happy – not because this young viewer has chosen our platform to get his message through, but because he has chosen fountain pens as a gift for the momentous occasion. Nothing makes me more elated than these little gestures that scream that the fountain pens and inks are making a triumphant comeback! Happy Birthday young lady. May you write well, write long.
