This is a very important question which is always in minds of patients as well as of doctors whenever they observe any swelling or lump in bone. 0:54 - How do find out the tumour in the bone is Cancerous or not? 1:37 - Test for bone cancer 2:01- Medical History 4:05 - Physical Examination 4:23 - X-ray 5:07 - MRI 5:22 - Biopsy 5:23 - PET CT Scan It's important to understand the nature of the lump, whether cancerous or it's just a tumour. Because based on this the doctors will plan the treatment. Besides knowing it's a cancerous or non-cancerous tumour it is also important to know the type of cancer, whether it is primary bone cancer, metastatic bone cancer and from where it has spread to the bone. In order to find this, the patients need to undergo certain tests in order to get an accurate diagnosis. Initially, the doctors take the patient's detailed medical history. Physical Examination X-Ray -MRI -Biopsy What does the beginning of bone cancer feel like? If the patients have been experiencing the bone cancer symptoms for a very long time, then these are the patients who might have the possibility of bone cancer. If the patient has cancer then the pain keeps on aggravating as the cancer spreads. Swelling in the bone is another important indication of bone cancer, which a patient need to pay attention to and consult the doctor as soon as possible. If the patient is above 40 then doctors do check whether the patient had a tumour earlier. An x-ray of the bone is often the first test done if some type of bone tumour is suspected. Doctors might strongly suspect an abnormal area is a bone cancer by the way it appears on an x-ray. An MRI is often done to get a more detailed look at an abnormal area of bone seen on an x-ray. MRIs can usually show if it’s likely to be a tumour, an infection, or some type of bone damage from another cause. The results of imaging tests might strongly suggest that a person has bone cancer, but a biopsy (removing some of the abnormal area and checking it under a microscope and with other lab testing) is usually the only way to be certain. The doctor can aim the needle by feeling the suspicious area if it's near the surface of the body. In a very rare situation, the doctor recommends PET CT Scan.
