York City made it five matches without a win as the Minstermen went down 2-1 at home to a Mansfield Town side who would end the season in the play-off places. Chris Brass’ side were without a win since the 2-0 victory over Carlisle United and, as has been well documented, this winless run would go right until the end of the season culminating in relegation out of the Football League. However, at this point, York still even had an outside chance of a play-off place themselves if form could improve, but this defeat pushed them further down the table. The match was a damp squib on a day of celebration as a homecoming march had taken place before the game attended by more than 350 fans with a “wear red” day organised. However, the red was on the City players’ faces when, in the first half, no-one closed down talented Mansfield midfield player Liam Lawrence who, given so much time and space, hit a beauty into the top corner of the net. Future City player Richard Pacquette double the Stags’ advantage in the second half before Lee Nogan pulled a consolation goal back for the home side with a spectucular lob after a poor goalkeeping clearance. But it was Keith Curle's men who went home with all three points. York City: Ovendale, Cooper (Edmondson), Merris, Smith, Brass, Hope, Ward (Fox), Dunning, Nogan, Yalcin (Bullock), Walker. Attendance: 4,068 Footage from ITV Sport Re-edited and Remastered by Phil Howden
