Robotic Bin Picking on stamped parts with ABB robot in production at GEDIA

The company Ribinerf located in Spain has chosen the technology developed by VISIO NERF for its stamped parts bin picking applications. Two 3D scanners are able to precisely localize parts which have a low thickness in order to load production machines at a high speed rate for one of Gedia’s production plants. 2 references of parts are processed simultaneously without any mechanical movement of the scanners over the top of the bins. The 3D information from the vision systems are directly sent to a ABB robot via an Ethernet connection. The innovative systems developed by VISIO NERF are robust and able to work even when the parts are shiny, and have variations in tint or colors. The scanning and the processing of the 3D information are fast, which allows cycle time of few seconds. The Eyesberg3D software integrated to the cirrus3D sensor is able to recognize precisely parts with complex shapes thanks to the comparison of 3D cloud of points to the CAD model of the part. It is also able to check the overlaps of parts in order to send only safe coordinates to the robot. The technology is easy to implement, and with the mechanical simplifications most of our customers have a ROI/payback in less than 2 years.
