Travel Whiskers: / @travelwhiskers Ushidake Ski Resort Official Site: https://ushidake.com/ski/ English Explanation: https://www.snowjapan.com/japan-ski-r... Japan Hot Springs: • Japan Hot Spring Onsen Hotels Japan Travel: • Japan by Travel Whiskers Skiing in Japan: • Skiing in Japan Universal Studios Japan: • Universal Studios Japan Ushidake Onsen Ski Resort sits in the mountains of Toyama Prefecture, offering a charming and welcoming winter destination that captures the quiet appeal of regional Japanese skiing. Situated a 40 to 50 minutes drive from the urban centre of Toyama City, it strikes a rare balance, close enough for a spontaneous day trip, yet far enough to feel genuinely removed from city life. One of Ushidake's most compelling selling points is its scenery. From the top of the wide, gentle slopes, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Toyama Bay, Toyama Plain, and the Tateyama Mountain Range, one of Japan's most revered alpine backdrops. From the upper runs, guests are also treated to views of the Shinminato Ohashi Bridge, a striking sight that few ski resorts in Japan can rival. The views on clear days and during night skiing are particularly stunning. Ushidake is a modest resort by the standards of Japan's most famous ski destinations, but it delivers comfortably on what it promises. The ski area sits between elevations of 335 and 650 metres, with around 2.5 kilometres of slopes served by three lifts. The resort offers three courses, with a longest run of 2,000 metres and a maximum gradient of 20 degrees. The terrain is split evenly between beginner and intermediate runs, with no advanced courses. That profile makes it especially well suited to families and those new to skiing or snowboarding. The central slope stretches two kilometres and allows skiers to enjoy both the sport and the sweeping views of the Tateyama Mountain Range and the Toyama Plain. A snow-making machine helps ensure skiable conditions regardless of weather during the season, a practical advantage in a region where natural snowfall, while generous in good years, can be unpredictable. Ushidake has cultivated a well-deserved reputation as a family-friendly resort. Reviewers consistently describe it as a magical and fun destination, appreciating its reasonable prices, full rental services, and snow park for those interested in jumps and freestyle activities. The Ushidake Snow Park features a wide variety of obstacles catering to all skill levels, from beginners to more advanced riders. Children can also enjoy dedicated sledding activities, making it a genuinely all-ages day out. Children are defined as ages 6 to 15, adults as 16 to 59, and seniors as 60 and above, while preschoolers aged 0 to 5 ski free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. No visit to Ushidake is complete without a soak in its famous hot springs. A spa is located adjacent to the slopes, and several onsen facilities, including Ushidake Youth Highland, Takasakiya, and the Ushidake Onsen Health Center, are available at the foot of the mountain. After a day on the snow, slipping into warm mineral-rich waters while gazing out at the mountains is a quintessentially Japanese experience, and one that elevates Ushidake beyond a simple ski hill. The resort typically opens around December 20th and runs through to March 1st, though the operating period may be shortened depending on snow conditions. Operating hours run from 8.30 in the morning to 4.30 in the afternoon on weekdays and holidays alike, with night skiing available on select evenings. Ushidake will never compete with the sprawling mega-resorts of Hokkaido or Nagano, nor does it try to. Instead, it offers something perhaps more valuable, an approachable, affordable, and genuinely beautiful winter retreat that reflects the warmth and understated charm of Toyama itself. For locals and visitors alike, it is the kind of place you return to year after year. 0:00 Introduction to Ushidake Ski Resort in Toyama 0:49 Driving to Ushidake, Rental and Tickets 1:48 Ushidake Ski Trails 7:48 Food at Ushidake Ski Resort 9:55 Night Skiing at Ushidake Ski Resort
