**No copyright intended. For inspirational purposes only** This piece had a lot of meaning and purpose that developed further as we rehearsed and performed… but I feel I should share a little background behind the concept. My Grandad was in the Navy during WWII, 3 months after he and my Nan married, he went off to war. His ship was sunk, and he was captured and spent 7 years as a prisoner of war. The new’s came to my Nan that he was missing presumed dead, and she spent those 7 years not believing that he was gone. Nan joined the Navy when women were allowed to work in the Navy, working signals in Sydney harbour; she was even on the cover of women’s weekly to celebrate women in the Navy in June 1943. 7 years on from my Grandad’s capture he returned home to my Nan. They were happily married, started a family, and lived long and loving lives. My Grandad passed before I was born, and earlier this year my Nan passed, she was 97! What a life. This was the initial story behind my piece, it was about faith and love and all that comes with that. I share and receive extreme amounts of love in my life, and although I could never fathom the situation which my Grandparents were in, I know how hard I would fight for who/what I love. This piece was so individual for all of us involved as we danced out our fears, our insecurities, our doubts, our hope, our love, and then our power and belief. In being so vulnerable to our truths, we were able to create a bond and comradely like no other, and this piece grew even more. I say we through all of this (even though I didn’t perform) because with these boys sharing so truthfully and unapologetically, I was able to relate and let go of all my truths too. I felt every bit of therapy that they felt. I can’t thank these boys enough for everything that they are! This was indeed the most moving and powerful experience to date. I believe the power of this level of vulnerability and truth in dance, has the ability to heal and change lives, and this is how I love to share dance most. Thank you for reading, for all the kind words towards this piece, the love and respect that has been shown to these boys for who they are… Performed by: David McLean Jack Keogh Eamon Cross Harry Hillcoat James Fenwick Neale Whittaker Jordan Grant Benjamin Turland Anthony Takataka Music by: Hozier Film captured by: Jack Keogh
