He helped aspiring Kannada actress Maria Monica Susairaj (who had moved to Mumbai for her career) by providing contacts and assistance, leading to an intimate relationship. Maria was engaged to Lieutenant Emile Jerome Mathew (or Matthew), a naval officer posted in Kochi/Cochi. The Crime (May 7, 2008) Neeraj stayed overnight at Maria's new rented flat in Dheeraj Solitaire, Malad West, Mumbai (on May 6-7, 2008). Early morning on May 7, her fiancé Jerome arrived unexpectedly (having flown from Kochi after a suspicious phone call). He found Neeraj there, leading to a heated argument and physical fight fueled by jealousy. In rage, Jerome stabbed Neeraj multiple times with a kitchen knife, killing him on the spot. They transported it to a forested area near Manor (Palghar/Thane outskirts), doused it with petrol, and set it on fire before returning to Mumbai.
