Coming off two consecutive wins against ranked opponents Nebraska and Oklahoma, the University of Colorado Buffaloes would host Oklahoma State in a game that would solidify their place in the Orange Bowl for a second straight year. Led by a potent offense, the Buffaloes would accumulate 444 yards of total offense and would capture their second Big Eight title in just as many years. With Colorado legend Darian Hagan under center, the Buffaloes would go on to find the end zone four times through the air, opening up the ground game for All-American halfback Eric Bieniemy. What would ultimately take ten games in the making, Hagan would open up the passing attack and give the Buffaloes a new dimension of offense for the first time of the '91 season. In doing so, Hagan would go on to break the Colorado single game touchdown record, surpassing the likes of legends Bobby Anderson and Steve Vogel. Defensively, the Buffaloes secondary continued to prove why they were considered one of the best in the nation at the time, recording three interceptions throughout the course of the contest. The Buffaloes would find themselves with a 9-1-1 record after the contest and later ranked No.2 in the AP Poll rankings the following week. Having accepted a formal invitation to the Orange Bowl later that year, the Buffaloes would beat No.5 Notre Dame by a score of 10-9 and would solidify themselves as '91 National Champions.
