Education for Human & Planetary Flourishing: A Journey of Transformation On Thursday, May 15, 2025 - Nearly 850 participants gathered for Session 3 of the Presencing Series (hosted by the Presencing Institute), we embarked on a collective exploration of a fundamental question: How might we transform education to nurture both human potential and planetary wellbeing in our complex, interconnected world? Otto Scharmer challenged us with a striking paradox: 69% of people are willing to sacrifice for planetary health, yet 68% feel powerless to create collective change—revealing education's critical role in bridging intention and agency. Dayna Cunningham from Tufts University reminded us to "not let a good crisis go to waste," sharing how her students found purpose with "their hands in the dirt" in Mississippi's Delta, learning to see universities as genuine community partners. Rohan Arul-pragasam brought insights from an OECD-Presencing Institute collaboration, emphasizing the need to "engage our hearts and operate from a space where everyone is seen, heard," and closing with Richard Wagamese's wisdom: "All that we are is story." Venla Bernelius shared Finland's remarkable experiment almost 4,000 people to reimagine education, revealing schools as "nodes of togetherness" developing "future hope as a skill." Deepthy Raghavendra demonstrated the power of starting small, with her Leadership Lab growing from a single vision to reaching 700 students annually: "If we can create this, things emerge on their own because it creates a field of consciousness."
