This week, Dave sits down with Nick Reed of Johns Hopkins to discuss all the research he and his team is conducting around age-related hearing loss through the public health lens. They're researching the longer term effects of hearing loss, such as the co-morbities associated with hearing loss and the amount of money spent on healthcare by those with hearing loss. In addition, Johns Hopkins currently has a large scale randomized control trial underway to study whether or not treating hearing loss delays cognitive decline. If so, it would be an absolute game-changer to the value proposition of a hearing aid, as it would not only provide better hearing, but ultimately help to prevent or delay cognitive decline. As Nick mentions, one of the most effective ways to treat more people with hearing loss is through community intervention. Leveraging the community by converting patients into teachers, or advocates, to help spread awareness to their friends and family of the benefits of treating their hearing loss. This is a fantastic episode and discussion that you won't want to miss!
