2006 Campus Superstar winner Ng Cheeyang identifies as nonbinary; has been based in US since 2011

On 6 July 2025, 8 Days posted a video on TikTok feauturing a Zoom interview with Ng Cheeyang, who said they never identified as a boy or a girl. Campus Superstar was a spin-off from the larger scale Project Superstar, which was for adult contestants, and it focused on students from Singapore's secondary schools, junior colleges, and Institutes of Technical Education. It aired from 2006 to 2015 and ran for four seasons. On Wednesday, 9 July 2025, Ng posted an Instagram Reel to show how different life was personally and professionally now, as a musical theatre creator in New York. It attracted trolls who hurled all sorts of derogatory terms regarding Ng's weight, looks, and gender. In Ng's response video, they appeared in a couple of shots dressed in a floral dress and had painted manicured nails, saying they would not be put down by such negativity.
