A fun interview with Synapse Florida (synapsefl.com) CEO Lauren Prager during our 4th Anniversary Celebration at AMRoC Fab Lab, on July 19, 2023. ___________________ Combat robots (you read that right). Drone racing. Esports. Fabrication. All in a reimaged store in an old shopping mall. In just 4 years, the AMRoC FabLab has done incredible work creating a community-facing space teaching students from "K to Gray" skills in hardware, software, manufacturing, prototyping, and entrepreneurship. Visionary leaders Theresa Willingham and Steve Willingham have been part of the Synapse Florida community from the very start, and even credit Synapse Summit with helping them find their transformative program director, Brandy Jackson. Scott Ertz and Michele Mendez host STRYKE esports inside AMRoC Fab Lab, giving kids a community space to play and learn, and even incentivizing free gameplay for good grades. AI education leaders like Ora Tanner of Black Unicorn Education share expertise on cutting-edge tech there. We had the chance to stop by the Fab Lab recently to get a tour of their impressive expanded space and, of course, play with their toys. Congrats to the Foundation for CommunityDriven Innovation for envisioning and creating this resource. And to Soaring City Innovation Partnership for facilitating this initiative. If you're in the Tampa area or just want to be inspired by people doing the work to empower a new generation of innovators, be sure to visit with them in person or online. - Lauren Prager, CEO, Synapse Florida. _____________________________ About AMRoC Fab Lab The Advanced Manufacturing & Robotics Center (AMRoC) is a program of the nonprofit Foundation for Community Driven Innovation (FCDI) dedicated to building capacity in the University Area and Tampa Bay community.
