This is a Facebook Live Re-Broadcast from January 27, 2017 with Carissa Bonham of Creative Green Living. What should you do if you find out items in your home contain lead or cadmium? Find out which things I am getting rid of (and which I am keeping) after having my items checked for lead and cadmium with an XRF. As promised, here is the link to the ELLO glass bottle I am switching to now that I kicked my Starbucks cup to the curb: http://amzn.to/2kCCIPq I kind of ramble for a while, so here are the big takeaways: 1) if you have lead in your paint, water, or soil, you need to take care of that FIRST before you freak out about mason jars. 2) I like to use the CPSC guideline of 90 PPM lead (for items intended for kids) and 40 PPM cadmium as my guideline for whether or not something is worth freaking out about. If a lead free thing is available instead of the thing with trace lead, I will choose that. 3) Choices for a family who has already suffered from lead poisoning might need to be more strict than a family who has not. 4) Ask questions. If you aren't sure what to do, ask others what they have done/ would do. The Creative Green Living Community Group ( / creativegreenliving ) is a great place to do that.
