Beach and asked if I would do a super match with Paulo. I said sure. I arrive, match begins, Paulo is complaining about me wearing a rash guard during the match,(there was no rule against this back then) ref told him to continue, he kept telling the ref that I had to take the rash guard off, the ref said continue. There is a point in the match where Paulo bit me and the match had to be stopped to tape my hand. Paulo kept complaining that I was punching him, but it wasn't punched, it was just good ole hard judo grip fighting courtesy of Dr. Rhadi Ferguson. If I was punching, Dr. Ferguson must've been hitting me with real sledhammers when we practiced. This match just kept getting worse and worse, once we hit the ground Paulo tried to kick me from the ground. I knew a problem was about to happen soon. Then when they restarted us, the ref said guys keep it clean and shake hands. I reached out to shake, Paulo didn't want to shake hands and I attacked him hard but had a weird feeling that he had reached his breaking point. Paulo couldn't take anymore and threw a punch, I tucked my chin when he punched and shot in and the fight started. After they break us up, things went crazy and in the very end, they wanted us to restart. I refused and said the only way we are going to go again is if we fight mixed martial arts for real. I'm not going to take a chance to get knocked out by some guy trying to sucker punch me in a grappling match, he threw one punch and I wasn't going to give him another shot. So the promoter who was on his team, gave him the victory because I wouldn't continue. I laughed and said you must be crazy. He should be disqualified, how are you going to give a win to someone who throws a punch in a match and he was losing? After everything calmed down people apologized but it is what it is. These were how super matches were done back in the day, everyone around the mat. Many of the guys in this video were blue belts and are now black belts in our area. The match was fun and I had a great time doing this one.
