Mumbai: MPSC candidate's hunger strike continues

Shilpa Sonawane (28) continues to be on hunger strike in the city’s Azad Maidan for the seventh day at a stretch. She is fighting for appointment as an English lecturer in a government polytechnic of the state. While over 60 affected Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) recommended candidates are fighting for an appointment, she is the only one on a continuous hunger strike. On Sunday, the seventh day of the strike, her condition seemed to be deteriorating, the others said. These candidates were recommended in 2014 by the MPSC for appointment as English lecturers in government polytechnics of the state. Later, they were told there were no vacancies and that they should look for another job. Shilpa, however, said that she will continue the strike until they are given appointments.
