There are many influences that led up to 'The Fugitive' (Wiki has a pretty good rundown of the books, movies, etc that inspired the show). With a perfectly cast David Janssen as the innocent man on the run, this 1963 series became an instant fan favorite. And it would go on to inspire series like 'The Incredible Hulk', actually more 'Fugitive' than Marvel comic in its tone and storyline. In a move unusual for its time, 'The Fugitive' story was allowed to be resolved with a two-part finale that proved to be the most-watched tv show ever at the time. Pete Rugolo's theme, a driving symphonic jazz piece, didn't really change over the show's four runs, but the visuals did. So you'll see the first season open with the long explainer at the beginning, second season where the narration is cut back, and the final season ('In color!') which they basically tinted the freeze frame of the previous seasons intercut with color photos of the players. BONUS: The 2000 remake starring Tim Daly. It's not a bad theme (via Louis Febre) but no competition for Rugolo.
