To be successful in business, and most of life’s challenges, you need both perseverance and resilience. But what’s really the difference between the two? The dictionary defines Perseverance as: A steady continuation in a course of action. It defines Resilience as: The ability to recover quickly from illness, change, or misfortune. So, they really are separate. Here’s an example: Say you’ve been working on getting a big new customer for eight months. You have persevered through the cold calls, initial meetings, endless emails, drawing up a proposal, revising the proposal, waiting for finance to weigh in, then learning a new hire at the client will be involved in making the decision, plus all the other issues you need to persevere through to win the customer’s business. Then, in the ninth month your potential customer calls you and says they signed an agreement with your largest competitor. This actually happened to me early in my career. You've stayed in the game until the end. You sacrificed money, time and effort. And with that time expenditure came opportunity lost costs where you could have been working on something else. So, what do you do? Now comes the time to see if you have the ability to recover from misfortune. Are you resilient? Do you have what it takes: To get knocked down seven times and get up eight. To recognize the reality of your situation, whatever it is, and keep pushing ahead. To understand there will always be obstacles. But making and implementing a plan to get through or around those obstacles. Knowing you will fail again but making sure it’s not your last failure. And resilience is knowing that each knockdown makes us stronger. So perseverance and resilience really are different. And we need both of them if we are to be truly successful. So, here’s your Action Item and Mission, should you decide to accept it: If you’re in the middle of something important, something really meaningful to you, persevere. If you stop now you for sure have no chance of getting to the finish line. At the same time, prepare yourself, mentally and physically, to take a knock-down punch, get up and keep going. Both perseverance and resilience are required for ultimate success. Start building yours today and know I’ll be rooting for you. We all face challenges. Please share this video. Sharing will show you’re rooting for someone else and this is one way we can make each other successful. Remember, one hand washes the other, and together they get clean. Thank you for watching. Have a really rewarding week and I’ll see you next time. ============== RESOURCES ➡️ Systeme.io: I use Systeme.io for my website, blog, and all my online courses.
