City Morgue - “TOXIC BOOGALOO” [FULL ALBUM] REACTION + WRITTEN REVIEW

IG & Twitter @chimezieiii (Music starts at 0:55) City Morgue return with an 18 minute project packed with exclusively aggressive, rage-filled and hard-hitting tracks. Unlike their previous album “AS GOOD AS DEAD” which contained some elements of emo-rock and emotional vulnerability, “TOXIC BOOGALOO” is a strict throwback to the classic City Morgue sound that cultivated the foundation of their fan base. Thematically, ZillaKami and SosMula strictly rap about topics that fuel aggression, violence, retaliation, supremacy and a fighting spirit. If you’re at all familiar with City Morgue’s music then you will not at all be surprised by the content of this album. Guns, crime, methods of inflicting harm on an opposing party, disregard for the law, drugs and more grimey topics are rapped about in excess to truly showcase the raw rebellious and dangerous nature of the two artists. Lyrically, Zilla and Mula write their violent and rage filled anthems in a descriptive and ultimately disrespectful tone that perfectly illustrates the image they wish to convey. Not only are the lyrics written well but the delivery of the lyrics are wild, brash, uncontrolled and manic. This also helps further push their dangerous and wild image unto the listener. One thing that ZillaKami has continually been getting better at is his vocal control and melodies. Some of the hooks are extremely catchy because of the way he delivers them and the flow he uses. I can hear the emo/alternative influences sometimes in his rapping/singing but he manipulates those influences in a way to mold them to be more aggressive than one would usually find emo songs to be. Mula also comes through in his solo songs especially with his infectious flows and rhyme schemes that really left me impressed. His solo songs may be my favorites out of this project. Sonically, this album was banger after banger. There was not one song that gave the listener a break from the high intensity instrumentals that immediately make the listener head bang and want to mosh. The clashing mesh between metal/rock and hardcore/trap hip hop make for an adrenaline inducing setting that works perfectly with Zilla’s gravelly screamo-rapping and SosMula’s ecstatic, off the wall flows. All in all, I enjoyed this album. I don’t think it was better than their previous albums but this project stands up to par with them easily.
