There’s nothing better than experiencing a place like a local would. So HOLRs Editor-in-Chief Ksenia Edwards and Creative Director Joshua Davies set out to do just that, by spending a day following the tips of friends who call Niagara home. They were on a mission to uncover some of the best hidden gems in the region and the trip exceeded expectations. Ksenia and Josh spent a day exploring and discovered some great natural wines, indulged in some foodie spots and some stunning scenery that they've been thinking about long after they’ve left. Here are some of their favourite places to escape the city and explore Niagara this summer the local way. Destinations Featured: 1. It's About Thyme 95 Geneva St, St Catharine’s What to Order: 'The Pocket' (secret menu item), Chicken Shawarma, Falafel Wrap 2. Montebello Park 64 Ontario St, St. Catharines Tip: Only a 4-minute drive from It's About Thyme so get your order to go and post up on a bench in this beautiful park to indulge in it. 3. Rosewood Estates Winery 4352 Mountainview Rd, Beamsville Tip: Oder the 'Night Moves.' They also make incredible honey here on-site! 4. Ball's Falls Conservation Area 3292 Sixth Ave, Lincoln Tip: Take the trail that leads to Upper Falls and take it to the very top of the falls. The view is stunning and it is one of the most peaceful places we've discovered to date. It feels out of this world! So bring a blanket, a good book or some snacks and take it all in. 5. OddBird. 52 St Paul St, St. Catharines What to Order: The chicken liver brulee is a must try! The Fried chicken and the seared scallops we're also next level but the menu as a whole offers something for everyone and hits the mark for foodies. oysters, chilled half lobster, a shrimp cocktail, fried chicken, , and seared sea scallops
