The squadron was originally led by Major Landon C. Hendricks and has flown a total of 2,412 combat sorties. 533rd gunners are credited with a total of 46 enemy aircraft destroyed. Sweet and Lovely served with the squadron from 1943. It was a radio relay aircraft for the 65th Fighter Wing and was eventually retired back to the US on the 7th December 1945. After completing 27 bombing missions #42-30721 ‘Sweet and Lovely’ was used over the English Channel for radio-relay operations for the 65th Fighter Wing. The plane would circle over the English Channel and transfer radio messages to Air/Sea Rescue from aircrews in trouble. The plane was painted in special recognition markings, red and white stripes that were similar to those used for the D-Day invasion. Seen here is the Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress from the USAAF's 533rd Squadron of the 381st Bomber Group from the 65th Fighter Wing, called "Sweet and Lovely" in 1:72nd scale diecast by Corgi. I wish to acknowledge all those that have served past and present with their respective nations armed forces with some making the ultimate sacrifice. Political ideals aside, it takes great courage and selflessness to answer your countries call. Any images/video used thought our videos, are the rights of their actual creator/photographer and I do not attempt to claim any ownership in anyway and are used in purely an educational way.
