New footage released by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly shows a Shahed-series loitering munition drone striking and destroying what Iranian officials claim was an Israeli-linked surveillance radar near the Iran–Iraq border. The strike allegedly took place in the mountainous Shenderavi region of western Iran, close to the Kurdistan area of Iraq. According to Iranian media, the radar installation was part of a covert monitoring network allegedly connected to Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and used to track activity inside Iranian territory. Video shared by the IRGC appears to show aerial reconnaissance from the drone before it dives toward the radar site positioned on a remote mountain ridge, followed by a powerful explosion and fire at the impact point. Iran says the target was destroyed using a Shahed-136 loitering munition, one of the unmanned systems that has become central to the country’s asymmetric warfare strategy. These drones can travel long distances, identify targets, and strike by crashing directly into them with explosive payloads. However, the exact ownership and function of the radar installation has not been independently verified. Some analysts note the structure seen in the footage could also resemble a communications tower, leaving questions about whether it was a military surveillance asset or civilian infrastructure.
