THAT OLD GANG OF MINE (Henderson - Rose - Dixon) Criterion Male Quartette with Orchestra Accompaniment Vocalion A-14646, 1923. Please watch at 720p. "That Old Gang of Mine" was written as a nostalgic glance back to the happy days before World War I, and as a remembrance of those members of "the old gang" who are now "gone forever." The sheet music includes a recitation - spoken against a musical background - that expresses these feelings more fully. This version has replaced the recitation with an excerpt from that old favorite of barbershop quartettes, "Sweet Adeline." Thanks to Betty for this record! "I've got a longing 'way down in my heart For that old gang that has drifted apart. They were the best pals that I ever had. I never thought that I'd want them so bad! Gee! But I'd give the world to see That old gang of mine! I can't forget That old quartette That sang 'Sweet Adeline.' Good-bye forever, old fellows and gals! Good-bye forever, old sweethearts and pals! (God bless them!) Gee! But I'd give the world to see That old gang of mine! Last night I strolled to that old neighborhood. There on that corner I silently stood. I felt so blue as the crowds hurried by. Nobody knew how I wanted to cry! Gee! But I'd give the world to see That old gang of mine! I can't forget That old quartette That sang 'Sweet Adeline.' Sweet Adeline, My Adeline. At night, dear heart, For you I pine. In all my dreams, Your fair face beams. You're the flower of my heart, Sweet Adeline. Gee! But I'd give the world to see That old gang of mine!"
