The Senate has approved the electronic transmission of election results to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal, while retaining manual collation as a fallback in cases where technology fails. The decision follows days of protests and sharp criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups, who argue that allowing manual transmission could undermine transparency safeguards ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tonight, we assess what this amendment means for electoral credibility, whether the balance between technology and inclusivity has been properly struck, and how public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process can be strengthened. Joining the conversation are Anthony Unani, Executive Director of #FixPolitics in our Abuja studio; Charles Oludare, Public Affairs Analyst from Texas; and Solomon Dalung, former Minister of Youth and Sports and member of the ADC.
