Being a fan-favorite since its debut in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG set, Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, and being the ace monster of Joey Wheeler in the Yu-Gi-Oh animated series, Red-Eyes Black Dragon was rewarded with its own archetype. Even though certain cards involved Red-Eyes Black Dragon before this set's release, like Red-Eyes Black Chick, Inferno Fire Blast, Red-Eyes Wyvern, and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, none of those cards were helpful to the 2400 Atk dark dragon. The only cards that consistently saw play were Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Red-Eyes Wyvern due to Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon's ability to special summon any Dragon from the hand or graveyard and Red-Eyes Wyvern's ability to banish itself to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal if it was in the graveyard. However, the first wave of support it received was supposed to rectify Red-Eyes's problems….and didn't quite do that. So today, we'll look at the Red-Eyes Archetype and why it failed in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG.
