My new C. Bechstein Residence R 6 upright piano has arrived. I play Busoni's transcription of Bach's Chorale Prelude "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland" on it for the first time. At the end of 2024, Bechstein opened a new showroom at Bechstein Hall, on London's Wigmore Street. I was all set to be their very first customer, however the opening was delayed by a couple of weeks, so the model I wanted to view had to be viewed at the nearby Jaques Samuel piano's instead, which is where I ultimately purchased it from. Bechstein Hall is beautiful though, and the intimate concert hall there is well worth a visit. The Residence R6 is certainly the most responsive and expressive upright piano I've ever played.
