Have you ever read a parable of Jesus and thought, Wait… what?! That’s exactly what happens in today’s story. In Luke 16, Jesus tells a parable about a dishonest manager—and then commends him. Double take, anyone? Here’s the short version: A manager is caught mismanaging his master’s wealth. Knowing he’s about to lose his job, he quickly reduces debts owed by others to secure their favor. He’s shrewd, strategic… and yes, dishonest. But Jesus isn’t celebrating dishonesty—He’s highlighting shrewdness. He says, “The people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.” – Luke 16:8 In other words, people of the world are often more intentional about preparing for their future than God’s people are when it comes to eternity. 💡 Here’s the big idea: If we know that a day of reckoning is coming, we ought to steward our time, resources, and influence with eternal perspective. Not with deceit, but with wisdom.
