Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 77 (Piano Accompaniment)-II. Scherzo. Allegro ♩=126, B-flat minor, 3/8 time, Expanded Modified Ternary form(Analysis) Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op.77 was composed between 1947 and 1948 and dedicated to David Oistrakh, with its premiere taking place in Leningrad in 1955. This concerto departs from the traditional concerto form, adopting a symphonic four-movement structure, in which the solo violin and orchestra interact as equals while conveying intense psychological expression. Throughout the work, there is a strong contrast of emotions and inner tension, with interplay between minor and major tonalities, dramatic rhythms, melodic motifs, repetition, and variation techniques, creating a unique musical narrative. Moreover, the concerto was composed against the backdrop of political oppression and personal inner conflict, and Shostakovich expresses his characteristic irony, satire, and the solitude of the human psyche through musical language. These features elevate the work beyond a mere concerto, granting it the stature of a dramatic, narrative, symphonic piece, and securing its important place in 20th-century music history. II. Scherzo. Allegro ♩=126, B-flat minor, 3/8 time, Expanded Modified Ternary form The second movement, Scherzo, begins with sharp, tense rhythms and a lively energy, with the solo violin and orchestra interacting actively to convey a humorous yet ironic character. In the A section, rapid and pointed melodies and rhythms dominate, with the solo violin closely interweaving with the orchestra to create dramatic tension. In the B section, relatively slower and smoother melodies appear, yet a sense of tension and instability is maintained, providing contrast. The returning A' section reproduces the vigor and tension of the A section, and the movement concludes by emphasizing a satirical and complex character through sharp rhythms and dramatic contrasts. This movement strongly reveals Shostakovich’s characteristic irony, satire, and inner tension, serving as the central point of psychological contrast and dramatic intensity within the entire concerto. 00:04 Scherzo Theme (A) 01:50 Trio-like Episode (B) 03:52 Scherzo Return (A') 05:52 Scherzo Return (A') 06:12 Interpolated Trio Recall ■ Enjoying the Whole Movement • Видео ■ (Analysis) Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 77 https://suhkyung61.tistory.com/259 https://cafe.naver.com/suhkuyung67/4173
