0:00 I. Con affetto 1:51 II. Presto 3:29 III. Dolce 5:30 IV. Vivace 6:42 V. Largo 9:48 VI. Allegro 10:55 VII. Vivace For some reason, Telemann's music, particularly in major keys, often makes me think of spring. This partita is the first in a set of six published in Frankfurt in 1716, written for a melody instrument (violin, flute, and oboe are on the original prints, though recorder works and there are very nice arrangements for trumpet and other instruments) and continuo, specifying that the two lines can also be played on a keyboard instrument alone. These partitas do not take the form of a suite of specific dances -- though the fourth movement certainly feels like a gigue and the fifth a sarabande -- these are not indicated in the score, rather you get a first movement followed by six "arias" with tempo or expression markings. I have played this one on the tenor recorder because it fits well and also because I often find it difficult to play the tenor as a solo instrument and wanted to see if I could bring it off well, which I feel that I have. When there are repeats, I have put in some variants and ornaments except in the last movement which has quite enough notes without adding any more!
