The Kansas Naturopathic Doctor Association is seeking to further delineate the definitions within K.S.A. 65-7202 to more clearly represent our values, education, and continuing education requirements. Licensed in Kansas since 2003, Naturopathic Doctors have helped transform the lives of thousands of Kansans, addressing a wide range of health issues such as diabetes, migraines, infertility, heart disease, arthritis, and much more. In fact, the impact of our small profession is broad, having made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless patients. We provide not only effective treatments but also long-term cost savings by focusing on preventative care and the management of chronic conditions—often the heaviest emotional and financial burdens on individuals. Naturopathic Medicine Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself. Naturopathic Doctors use a variety of treatments, including diet, lifestyle changes, supplements, and natural therapies, to address the root causes of illness and promote long-term health and wellness. Emphasizing principles of prevention, education, and patient empowerment, naturopathic medicine aims to restore balance and improve overall well-being. Education & Training  Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) follow an education path similar to Medical Doctors (MDs) and Osteopathic Doctors (DOs). They complete undergraduate coursework in Biology, Chemistry, and other Pre-Medicine Studies before entering a rigorous four-year doctoral program. This includes two years of didactic training and two years of supervised clinical internships covering diagnostic techniques, labs, imaging, nutrition, pharmacology, minor surgery, and the interactions between diet, herbs, and nutrients. NDs also specialize in botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, and homeopathic medicine. After earning their doctorate and board certifications, Naturopathic Doctors are recognized as primary care providers in 11 of the 24 licensed states and territories, with pharmaceutical scope in 13. Goal K.S.A. 65-7202 currently does not fully reflect the training and capabilities of Naturopathic Doctors. Our legislative initiative seeks to align Naturopathic Doctors’ training with their Scope of Practice in Kansas, including updates to malpractice, continuing education requirements, and expanding the scope to include prescription medications, and ultimately enhancing our ability to provide more comprehensive care to Kansans. Impact By supporting this legislative initiative, you will help Naturopathic Doctors better serve our community, particularly increasing access for Kansas residents in rural areas. This initiative will also help bridge the gap in the healthcare shortage, especially those in underserved rural regions.
